Age of Sigmar General Rules 

Ahoy! the Broadside Bash’s Warhammer Age of Sigmar Tournament is gearing up again!  It will take the shrewd strategist, Skilled hobbyist, and the all-around ideal player to “Weigh Anchor and Hoist the Mizzen” to put some booty in your coffers.  Bring your favorite grog or clap of thunder and cross the gangplank with us!

This event will be run on the Best Coast Pairing Website, you will need an account to be entered into
the event. Please do not use the BCP phone apps during the event - use the website.

Schedule

These rules are subject to change until May 13th, 2024.

The tournament will use the standard rules for Matched Play; this means the Age of Sigmar Core Rules as well as the Pitched Battle rules in General’s Handbook 2024.  The Full Battlepack from the GHB 2023-2024 will be used at the event.

Any kind of ability you can choose before the game must be chosen before the event and be recorded on your army roster clearly. These choices are made for the entire tournament and cannot be changed during the event. This includes your Grand Strategy.

You must conduct yourself in a manner that will not bring our hobby into disrepute; poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. This includes general rudeness as well as any form of cheating.

You must bring all materials needed for Matched Play, including the General’s Handbook, your army’s battletome (if appropriate), and any relevant FAQ/Errata as well as dice, measuring tape, etc. Digital versions of the above (via the Age of Sigmar app) fill this requirement so long as they can be readily accessed. You do not need to have a copy of Malign Sorcery unless you are using one or more Artifacts of the Realms.

Bring at least two copies of your army list, typed or in clear handwriting.

Your armies will consist of forces up to 2000 points using the rules and restrictions provided in the Pitched Battle Battlepack section from GHB 2023-2024. Lists must be in BCP the weekend before the event, which would be on May 26th, 2024. Upload it into Best Coast Pairings using the WH AoS App or Warscroll Builder. Build the complete list, then upload the list into the list submission section on the BCP website. Lists will be posted for public view on the following Monday or after they are finalized.

Any rules one week before the event, May 24th, will be usable at the event.

Army Restrictions and Rules

Armies will be 2000 points constructed using the rules for Pitched Battles outlined in General’s Handbook 2024. Any releases from Games Workshop and/or Forge World may be used so long as they were released at least one week prior to the tournament. Similarly, the most recent FAQ/Errata must be used so long as it was released at least one week prior. Army lists must be submitted by the start of the tournament and will remain the same throughout.

Any material released officially in any Games Workshop or Forge World Books, their Websites, or the Age of Sigmar App a week before the event is playable.  That information must be available to anyone for purchase, print, or viewable online from the company.  The tournament pack is listed here and will have the possible battleplans listed there.

The general rules for the Age of Sigmar tournament are straightforward. You must use the same army for each game.  Furthermore, players should know that this tournament is for fun; and that poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.

Painted armies are required at the Broadside Bash.

The minimum requirement is 3 colors, with no undercoat or bare plastic, with textured/painted bases.

Models not painted or based appropriately WILL be removed as casualties by the tournament organizers and will be unable to take part in the tournament. You must play with a fully painted army.

Any player who has models removed will be ineligible for any painting awards.

Models must be on round bases, please use the base size suggestions provided by GW in the Pitched Battle Profiles. The wrong base sizes can give you an undue advantage in gameplay, so please use the suggested bases.

What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG).

Miniatures must be modeled appropriately for the equipment rules they are using (but note that ‘command group’ models such as musicians or standard bearers may use any weapon option regardless, as per the Core Rules). This means they must be WYSIWYG; hammers are hammers, swords are swords, etc.

Proxies are not permitted but reasonable ‘counts as’ models or conversions may be. If in doubt email the TO pictures of the model and details on what it is supposed to be. Non-Games Workshop models are permitted.

Models must be mounted on the appropriate base size as detailed in base sizes document available on Warhammer Community. As per the rules if a model is not on the correct base it must still be measured as if they are—for the purposes of the tournament the model must be attached to a base of the correct size to ensure clear measurement.

Tournament House Rules:

Terrain will have one or more of the following rules (please agree on what terrain does before
placement):

• 2 will be DEFENSIBLE TERRAIN (CR 17.1.2); For Defensible Terrain/Garrison: (CR 17.2) Replace the unit size restriction with: One unit Up to 15 models can garrison regardless of the terrain’s size. Models with a Wounds characteristic of 10 or more cannot garrison terrain features. Units and models garrisoning a terrain feature are in that terrain feature’s garrison. A garrison that is Smashed to Rubble is still impassable.

• At least 2 others will be WYLDWOOD TERRAIN (CR 17.1.4). “Visibility between 2 models is blocked if a straight line 1mm wide drawn between the closest points of the 2 models passes across more than 3" of a wyldwood terrain feature. Visibility to or from models with a Wounds characteristic of 10 or more is not blocked by wyldwood terrain features.”

Note for wyldwoods - trees can be removed/moved by players. They are a representation only. Wyldwood terrain does not need to be physical woods – If no woods are on your tables then any terrain piece could be given this rule.

• An added category IMPASSABLE TERRAIN: 2 other pieces must be labeled as impassable terrain features. An impassable terrain feature is impossible to move a unit over, unless that unit can fly or has an ability that lets you ignore terrain. A unit can never finish any type of move on an impassable terrain feature.

• Remaining pieces of terrain are treated as cover.

Basic steps to set up:
1. Players roll off, the winner chooses which player is the attacker and which is the defender.

2. The defender sets up the battlefield. First, they place the objectives as shown on the battleplan map.  Then set up the 7-8 pieces of terrain. “Each terrain feature must be set up more than 3” from the battlefield edge, more than 6” from all other terrain features and more than 3” from all objectives” (GHB pg. 11). In addition, at least two pieces of terrain must be placed wholly within the center four spaces, at least two must be placed wholly within the outer ring, and at least two must be placed so it is roughly half in the center four spaces and outer ring.

Defensible terrain must be more than 6” from objectives. (This does not apply to faction-terrain).

3. Then the defender rolls 8 dice on the mysterious terrain chart (CR 28.1.3). Next, the defender assigns each piece of terrain an effect, one for each piece of terrain.

4. The attacker picks which territory is their territory. The other territory is the defender’s territory. The players then use alternating deployment (GHB pg. 11), starting with the attacker...

    Scenarios

    BSB 2024 AoS Scenarios
    • There will be five rounds. The scenario used for each round will be randomly determined ahead of time from the Battleplans and Pitched Battles chart in the General’s Handbook 2024.
    Scoring: Score card will be using the OTTD format
    Round Time: Each round will be 3 hours, if a game is not going to finish in the assigned time, the players should come to an agreeable resolution to the game. If you see that time is a problem be proactive and talk with your opponent. Chess Clocks are also available on request. When the time for a round is over scores must be in within 10 minutes of the end of the round. If this is not possible, please call a T.O. whatever they decide will be final.

    PLAYER CONCEDES
    If a player concedes, they receive a major loss, and their opponent receives a major victory. The opponent also scores all remaining battle tactics and denies all remaining battle tactics, as well as scoring the grand strategy and denial bonus.

    For example, if player A concedes after the top of turn 2 (having taking turn 2), their opponent would score 4 rounds of battle tactics [rounds 2,3,4,5], plus 3 rounds of denies [rounds 3,4,5], plus the grand strategies, plus any points they had already achieved for battle tactics up until that point.

    Note with regards to scoring all possible remaining battle tactics, the players must calculate which of their un-used tactics are still possible to score.
