Starting this year, we dropped the points level of 40k down to 1850, due not only to the ITC tournament setup, but also based on feedback from our players that with the current complexity of 40k, its getting harder and harder to finish the larger games. We are getting a lot of feedback from people are wanting to drop down to 1500 points in order to be able to reliably complete games in 2-2.5 hours.
We previously had wanted people to be able to play with more toys, which is just not as reasonable in a 5 game 2 day event with tight timeframes. This also has the effect of making it easier to enforce our fully painted rule, by going with the slightly lower, more common points level.
