The complexity of rules interaction and interpretation.

We had one issue come up, after the event, with some list controversy for one of our award placing players.  There has been some talk on both DakkaDakka and Frontline Gaming about the situation.  The player in question brought this to our attention as soon as it was discovered and we have reviewed the situation in depth.

The issue at point is NOT an illegal list.  The list used is perfectly valid, according to the BSB and ITC rules.  However a mistaken rules interpretation was made in-game, with regards to how the rules for a particular combination of wargear and gifts interact with each other.  The particularities of the interaction of the rules are such that there is even some disagreement as to whether the particular combination is actually against the rules or not.

In any case, we have discussed it amongst ourselves; listened to the commentary by outside parties; and discussed both with the player in question and some of his opponents.  During the tournament, no one even noticed this as an issue and the consensus is that it had limited (if any) effect in the actual outcome of and of the games.

While we hold our players to the highest reasonable standards, and expect that they all play their games and conduct themselves with the utmost integrity, we know that everyone is human and that mistakes can happen.  As it appears that there was no intention to incorrectly play the combo and there are no aggrieved parties as a result of it, we are leaving our award placement as it stands.

We would encourage ALL of our Broadside Bash players to pay careful attention to your rules and strive to insure that you are following both the letter and the spirit of the rules in all cases.  But also to remember that this is a HOBBY and we are all in this to have FUN.

If you do have any questions or concerns about this, please feel free to contact me directly to discuss.  You can find our contact information on the Staff page.
